The West US Final



What do you get when you combine 14 bands, 1300 fans, 6 hours of music, 5 judges, and one of the world''s most elegant and sonically spectacular venues? The EMERGENZA national finals at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco, California. THE FEED kicked off the night after setting the tone in the semifinal round at 12 Galaxies by packing the room with 300+ die hard fans. With one of their most flawless sets to date, they got the crowd live and set the bar high for the rest of the bands. OLGA SALAMANCA and her band followed with an awe inspiring set. Don''t be fooled by her innocent look and acoustic guitar... she definitely knows how to rock. A staple of the San Francisco music scene, GROOVY JUDY, pulled out all the stops, throwing balloons around during her set which marked the release of her upcoming self released album. The a capella loveliness that is MANGO KINGZ never cease to amaze. Stunning vocals, unique instrumentation, and downright funky and fun songs all add up to one amazing musical performance. Check them out this summer on the bay area festival circuit... PIEYOW! All the way from Phoenix, Arizona, LUNCHBOX SUPERHEROES is an amazingly funky fusion of super technical musicianship and song-writing. If you ever want to get yourself in front of a straight up good time punk rock and roll show, check out THE JIMMY''S @ their next gig. Big congrats to VILE CONUNDRUM, a very young band just now breaking onto the bay area scene. They will represent the western U.S. at the EMERGENZA International Final in August. They''re sure to wow the German crowd with their high intensity show, amazingly intricate musicianship, and progressive sound. The night''s youngest band, THE LUXURY SWEETS are prime candidates for the big time... young, creative, original, and a hell of a party to witness live, the young rippers from Santa Cruz are destined for great things. San Francisco veterans CASTLES IN SPAIN, now on their 4 th self released album, and dubbed Bombay Zeppelin by the San Francisco Bay Guardian, wowed the hometown crowd with striking vocals and some of the best players in the area. They will no doubt continue their reign as SF music royalty for years to come. Out of towners MOB LAW representing Seattle, WA had a super simple but powerful set combining elements of reggae, hip-hop, funk, and rock. PLUM fought through a couple of technical issues to pull off one of their most dynamic sets to date. Relatively new to the SF scene... be sure to keep an eye out for any upcoming shows for this very talented, very unique musical machine. Santa Cruz'' MORNING THEORY had one of the most intense sets of the night. Their frontwoman led the way for a great rhythm section headed up by none other than the bearded wonder Mr. Jack Passion. KAPAKAHI... any way you say it, it spells a good time. From hip-hop to reggae to ska to rock... amazing players, great tunes, and high energy all combined to create an amazing 20 minutes of music. FATHER FESTUS closed out an amazing night by actualizing a life-long dream... to play the historic GREAT AMERICAN MUSIC HALL in front of a thousand die hard music fans.
