The first 2006 international finalist comes from the Netherlands
The Dutch band Concubine is the first International finalist 2006. The won the Benelux final which was held in Tillburg (Ned) on May 19th.
Concubine was founded in October 1998, by Joost Peeters and Jaap Melman. Looking for a singer/guitar player, they soon found Dennis Peters.
The following years they switched some members. Jaap left Concubine to play with Dreadlock Pussy. Remko Schreurs joined the band to do the leading vocals. After that drummer Niek van Lin joined the band, with brings us to the current line-up;
Remko Schreurs – Leading vocals.
Dennis Peters – Guitar and backing vocals.
Joost Peeters – Bassguitar and backing vocals.
Niek van Lin – Drums.
Over the past few years Concubine has been folded in many ways, but never lost their unique sound. Before: “funkskametal in a full metal jacket”, nowadays “crossover metal”. It’s a matter of growing up, without losing their enthusiastic youthfulness.
With their explosive live shows Concubine was part of the line-up at the Pinkpop festival 2001 and became second at the final of the “Grote Prijs van NL 2001”.
Singer Remko was asked to sing along on a track from the album ‘Tsumi’ by Dreadlock Pussy. He also performed the song live at Ozzfest and the Lowlands festival together with Dreadlock Pussy.
When Concubine released their first full-length album ‘Laughter Days’ in 2002, critics had nothing but respect and they thought of Concubine as a potential band.
The band toured around the Netherlands and played a lot of shows.
In 2005 the band recorded ‘Collapse of the Empire’, a 4-track demo.
This demo has been called a nice preview of the full-length album to be released somewhere in 2006.
