Here’s Grand Prize 2006
A professional Studio Production!
This season the international winner will win a new, amazing prize: the chance to produce its first professional album in one of the coolest production and publishing studios in the world: the Roastinghouse in Malmoe (Sweden).
The studio''s personnel will be at your complete disposal to record, mix and post-produce your album, and Emergenza will pay for all travel, accommodation and food expenses for the lucky band.
Theo Theander, musician, producer, and owner of the Studios, tell us more about the prize.
- Tell us a brief history of your studios.
The studio was built 1987 in an 18th century building which housed Sweden’s first coffee brewery, there fore the name Roastinghouse. As the biggest studio in Sweden the interest was obvious from the start and when the recordings started to reach the market it led to national and international customers in the music business to hire the studio and our in house producers, engineers and songwriters.
Through the years we have recorded way over 130 albums and numerous singles and demos with both well known artists and upcoming bands.
- are a musician yourself? What brought you to set up a recording studio?
I was working as a drummer in Los Angeles 1988 – 1989 and when I came back to Sweden I got hired to play on a studio project at Roastinghouse, which gave me the opportunity to “hang out” at the studio. Then I starter to help out in the office area. In the meantime I started to explore the studio equipment during night ours and discovered how similar it was to play drums and to produce music. I got hired as a producer/engineer more than as a drummer so in 1993 I became the owner of Roastinghouse Studio AB.
- Do you think working with Emergenza is a way of investing in the future, that is in young musicians?
Today’s undiscovered artist and up coming bands are tomorrow’s stars and that’s why I want to be a part of Emergenza. It’s a perfect forum for us independents and for all the bands which participate.
- Tell us a typical ''recording day'' that next year''s winning band will spend in your studio.
Coffee in the morning and then work, work, work, some more coffee and some more work.
I think that most of the bands have spend some time in a recording studio but when it’s time for the winning band to enter Roastinghouse Studio it’s on the highest level possible (and I don’t mean SPL level!)
- where will the band live during that weeks?
In our band apartment close to the studio, in fact, right below the studio.
- What offers ''Malmoe by night''?
At location we can offer everything you can ask for like restaurants with menus from Swedish traditional food to Indian, Japanese, Mexican, Chinese, Spanish, Libanese. You can have a beer in one of 6 pubs close by. If you like sports there’s gym’s and a big bowling complex with bars, nightclub, roulette, 21 and game machines. If you have a day of we’re only 30 minutes by train to Copenhagen. And there’s plenty of music clubs of course!!!
- how will be the recording promoted?
The record will be released promoted by Track and Roastinghouse Records, but details will be defined after the Granf Final. In any case, we’ll promote the band as a high profile release with top priorità.
- what do you think about the Swedish music scene?
It’s very lively and cool, but as in the rest of Europe it’s tough out there. We’ll have to make changes with the market so for us independents it’s faster and easier to adapt to the demands.
- By the way, last year you set up your own record label: how do you face the new music global and ''virtual'' market?
As above and the virtual market will become much bigger and more important for us all in the music business, (including the bands and artist, yes, you are a part of the music business) and I hope that it will turn out positive so people understand that music cannot be totally free for fans, but will always be able to make your m
