Now including even more French Canadian Rock!

The final weekend of Montreal''s quarter final rounds of the Festival began with an alternative rock band by the name of ‘Insilco’ beginning the proceedings on a cool thursday night. They played originals to a packed house and hit the stage rolling. ‘Decline from Failure’ blazed on stage in hard core fashion and finished their set with a twist on an old Bon Jovi stand by, You give love a bad name. Surprisingly after dealing with a few technical glitches ‘Break the Cycle’ wowed the audience with some hard alt/rock flavour. ‘Oddysey’ a female fronted unit sauntered through a variety of progressive rock songs and tempos. Electro rock was incarnated and brought to life by no other than ‘Mute’ once again. ‘Third Place’ the pop/punk/alternative instillation of the night played off of the crowd to raised hand claps and chanting. Hipster indie rockers ‘Famous Lovers’ played a set of true independent rock sounds truly loud and with a certain swagger. Fusion funk jazz and trombone/keys style had all the heads nodding for the meandering and speed wash of ‘Panacea’ who brought the night to a close. It was a Friday night and we were feeling all right and then, ‘A Broken Trigger’ took the stage and made us feel a bit better. Nice harmonies and a plethora of acoustic guitars. ‘Groovy Brass’ is exactly that, groovy. A nice funk appeal with horns keys and heavy bass lines. The stage was set ablaze with the metal sounds of ‘Hymnosis’ who raged through their set. ‘Veeto’ was the next contender with garage rock style vocalised in native french. Traditional punk and political commentary was offered by ‘Drag Us Down’. Friday night rounded out with ‘Syrcus and Maze’ s alt. rock flavoured performance. Sweet sounds on a springtime Saturday is what was expected. That''s what was found on the stage at Petite Campus when ‘All Trashed Down’ started their set. If hardcore metal could be called sweet. Alt. rock wonders ‘Crazy Carpet’ and ‘Maken Kozapo’ followed the call and put on an inspired and artfully creative set respectively. ‘Hollow Grief’ always deliver an energetic metal set and played their signature song once again to the adoring audience. ‘Redeemed’ sultry vocalist helped awe the already active dance floor with an aggressive hard rock sound. ‘Rokaria’ kept up the pace with their brand of funky rock songs leading into the next set. Frank the lead singer from ‘Moudjik’ has great stage presence and being over six feet tall, is an imposing figure bounding about the stage to the alternative sounds of his band. As the final band of the quarter final round of the Emergenza festival here in Montreal ‘Skreech’ filled the venue with unequalled metal strength. Now off to Club Soda for the semi final rounds. This is where you will find some of the best bands participating this season. We have been promised it will be just as loud and equally as astounding as this last round was
