Bright Lights, Big Sound!
The final weekend of Vancouver''s Semi-Finals were nothing short but a full out ses-pool of live sound! The weekend painted a path for the local scenes break through of the common gigs that most are used to.
Thursday had The Smears drown the audience with a rockin set that moved the crowd, while Lost in the Sun had a drum solo that shook things up. Next up was the band Hooligan who boasted a lead singer that resembled Axel Rose and paraded around the stage with huge energy. Porn on the Cob brought out the bongo drum, and Unlabeled performed a melodic punk rock set. To round of this night was also a band Josh Martinez & The Pissed off Wild who really brought a creative and unique sound that woke up the late weekday crowd and turned some heads and moved some bodies. The Ingredients finished the night off with an Indie flavour that was definately all their own.
The weekend rolled in with furious thunder on Friday night! Starting it all off was Unit 29 who were from out of town but knew the language of music, and Viv Savage tore up the stage with a heavy alternative set. While The Balance experimented with some choice cuts and beats. The Sessions were a force to be reckoned with as they ploughed through the audience with a performance that set the room on fire with their fans chanting for an encore!! Dreams of Treason rocked the crowd on with alternative funk. Schematic were not left aside for others but took full control of the mic, and Redheaded Stepchild brought out some good ol'' Rock n Roll!
Saturday was no exception to bring out some serious noise. Starting it off was Eklektasy who were no illusion to true rock with a female vocalist. Next up on the bill was First Reign whose genre was metal, and Novastatik who smacked the crowd with a song titled "Insectkidal". Andy Collins had an idie rock groove, and Innocent Bystander followed with alternative emotions. The Fall of Summer were wide awake with Emo screams, and the Joint Chiefs were thrash Kings.
The last night of the Semi-Finals being Sunday started off with Slitsoul who had a heavy set, while Dead End Job switched things up with some pop flare. She Says Electric ignited the stage with great hair and sound that had their fans screaming for more! The Skeddadlers brought out some folk rock that lightened the mood, and The Stalls were equipped with a keyboard that spiced things up to their performance. Along Way Home dashed on stage with Emo chords, while The Turn cut the stage to pieces with dirty knuckles as their recent radio play on the CFOX has gained them some serious exposure. Marnie Mains ended this night off with some peaceful acoustic sounds. That concluded Vancouver''s season semi-final rounds, the bands that have moved on to our Vancouver Final are: Marble Rye, Hellrazor, For No One, The Void, Musa, Quartered, Lost in the Sun, The Sessions, Dreams of Treason, Andy Collins, Eklektasy, The Turn, She Says Electric, and Viv Savage. I would also like to thank all the bands that have participated with Emergenza in Vancouver and made this season amazing with unique fresh talent that will continue to grow.
Vancouver's Ripe Rock Scene
The venue to host this years first Semi-Final rounds in Vancouver was none the less but Richards on Richards that has 25 years under their belt of shows. The setting is brick walls with gold trim and a serious sound system that also has notable headliners punch through on a regular basis.
Thursday's line-up consisted of 9 bands and the first up on the bill was Incura whose sweat went cold with serious noise, Skookum was up next and performed a Canadian version of the theme song from Team America with the lyrics being Canada fu%$in Eh? Following them was Koi who were a big fish in this pond with a song titled "C3PO" that was no robot from Star Wars! Lokjaw's ill will swept the crowd like a disease, while Drowning in The Mainstream stripped down their set to a raw metal house. Marble Rye shared their time on stage with a k
