Elimination Rounds completed in Atlanta
The final weekend of Emergenza''s eliminatory rounds took place this past weekend in Atlanta at the Vinyl. What a whirlwind this weekend was! With a very diverse line-up and lots of rock the elimination rounds were completed on a high note.
Wednesday night had a spectacular line-up. The Alan Yates Band warmed everyone up with a sweet set that included excellent harmonies and a professional demeanor. Stereozur, a band made up of South American teenagers, let the audience know just how hard spanish rock can rock. They not only had a unique sound, but a unique look as well. Somorosa then took the stage with a female bass player and excellent vocals. De Mezcla, an experimental band made up of suburban teens, stormed the stage with excellent drums and a strong lead vocalist. The Wrist Bandits added some punk to the table with songs like "Stupid Couch" ande "Junk Rock Kids". These boys are definitely on their way to taking over the punk world. Separate Life, hailing from Cartersville, Ga, were very passionate about their rock set and portrayed their enthusiasm with an excellent engaging stage presence.
Supercharger charged into Thursday with an excellent opener song called "Remote Control." Cameo Nova then took the stage with a very well-thought out set list and excellent crowd interaction. 6 Dice, songplanet.com''s top 100 artist, struck the audience with a pure rock sound. The guitar solos were out of this world! Ciana smoothly changed over into a high energy set which utilized amazing stage presence and a drum solo. Heavy Mojo took the stage with a very professional performance and wooed the audience. They placed first in this evening''s events. Aisle 13, a band from Alabama, had very strong vocals and revved the audience with their in-your-facem presence. Social Espionage wheeled their turntables and rapped their way to the next round with ease. Silas brought the mood back to one of rock and put on an excellent performance that had the audience on their feet. Bari closed out the evening with a Prince-like set complete with excellent vocals and an alarmingly good musical ensemble.
Soul Sister opened up Friday''s Emergenza shows with excellent Classic rock. They had tight harmonies and well executed guitar solos. The Pickup Line had very strong bass''n''drums, unique vocals and a great relationship with the audience. Broken Machines took the stage and rocked the faces of the audience with a great opener and sweet guitar shredding. Formally known as Federation Unite, the Never Nudes, had a nice bass solo and a strong drummer. We then entered the Black Light District, this evening''s #1 band, with excellent vocalizations and composition. Headcheck followed with serious energy and interleaving melodies. Adagio followed with harmonies from the angels. This group was fantastic all-around! Element 21, and Atlanta based metal band, changed the mood with serious head banging and a great stage presence. Innocentivey, an Athens/Columbus based band closed out the evening with an original rock set that worked the guitar solos hard-core.
Saturday night was a special one here in Atlanta. Calico opened up the set with a very unique ensemble of Mandolin, Accordian, Fiddle and EXCELLENT harmonic vocals. The Shift followed with a unique sound that incorporated Les Claypool style vocal effects. February''s Closure, the only Emo band of the evening, utilized sweet breaks in their composition as well as an excellent presence. The One, a father his children and some instruments, rocked the audience with their progressive rock ensemble. I had no idea how talented kids today are! Immersed in Flames followed with a very dramatic performance. They screamed, they danced, they ROCKED! Galactic 4 brought us back the good-ole-rock''n''roll days when they stormed the stage.. They had the audience doing the twist and other old-time rock dances. Emergenza''s Best Showcase tour came through this evening and At
