The Big Apple Does it AGAIN



This past weekend''s Emergenza events in Manhattan at Arlene''s Grocery were filled with a variety of genres of music, composed of some of New York Cities finest new and old-school musicians. Thursday night had an excellent variety of styles of music and sounds. Dependency commenced with an underground sound that utilized scruff and muted distortion and solid drum and bass lines. The Folk followed with jazzy blues guitar rifts and a very strong lead vocalist. Angel Vivaldi followed with some sweet solos and tight drumbeats. Chasing Daybreak was up next with a stage presence hard to match and very strong and well-thought out transitions. m Spuyten Duyvil blew the audience away with their three-piece full sound and excellent harmonies. Eha, an Estonian born singer, followed with well produced tracks and a sweet pop-singer voice. Huckleberry Slim changed the mood with some acoustic rock complete with clarinet solos, a mandolin keeping rhythm and perfect harmonies. The Plot Thickens took the stage and ripped some guitar solos and tight drum and bass beats. The Ides closed out the evening with serious talent expressed through excellent vocals and harmonies, violin and keys alike. Friday night jump-started with with a very entertaining performance by the Baghdaddios. These New York City natives expressed their love of the city with a punk/hardrock sound and short tasteful guitar solos. Desperation Signature followed with powerful stage presence and excellent drumbeats. Ruka Skye was up next with lyrics that kept the audience on their toes and great guitar tones. Meredith Bliss and Her Little String Affair was a sight to see. The dynamics were on as the cellist lured us into a dreamlike state. Almost There was up next with a catchy set, an excellent image and awesome harmonies. The Mood took the stage with an extraordinaire set-up including xylophone, keys and sweet harmonies. Jesus Knevil changed the mood when they stormed the stage with a heavy groove oriented dirty metal set. They were totally into the audience and the response was great. J. Randy changed the mood again with a singer/songwriter feel that included a "box" player. The box produced the sound of a full drum set and all were in awe. Mackin closed out the evening with pure rock that had the crowd buzzing from their intense musical experience. Saturday night rocked out with a wide variety of genres of music. From Rock, to Progressive, to Hardcore to Grunge this evening was definitely diverse. The Fifth, hailing from central New Jersey, started the night off right with an excellent opener and good ole rock''n''roll. Genetic Control then took the stage with high class drumbeats, nice vocals and good harmonies. Architect Fails followed with a strong stage presence and excellent keyboard effects. Roberts and Kemper had an excellent ensemble of professional musicians and strong vocals. Condition 1 changed the mood with a harder metal set that managed to utilize dynamics in a powerful way. They harmonized, soloed and interacted with the audience which assured them a slot at the Semi-finals. The Straphangers pumped it up even more with great vocals, stage presence and an overall tight band. Pelagia shook it up with an all-around tight set. They had great songs with well written compositions and a stellar stage presence. Distant by Design was a very tight band with very tight endings to their songs. They had strong vocals and were surely a band to keep your eyes out for in the future. Julissa, a Latino Pop band hailing from Astoria Queens, closed out Saturday night to a packed room. They blew the audience away with their excellent composition, strong vocals and stage presence. What a treat!! Sunday got started off right with "Danielle Antonio" she played us some great pop songs with an irresistible mellow vibe.
