THE official 2006 South By South West REPORT by the Emergenza special agent. And so after well over 2000 signed and unsigned bands from 20 nations have finished their showcasing (and showing off) in Austin, we are in the process of entering in our semi final stage of the U.S. competition throughout the North American territory and have some great news for all of you still in the running and for everybody who are considering joining again. Last week saw a team of Emergenza people descend to Austin to work out what could be described as the “mother of all deals: showcases”. Apart from having a few bands from the Emergenza festival from present to past editions on the official and unofficial showcases, we, as a team had the pleasure to witness our Track1records-Hyperactive Magazine-Dreamscaper Promotion co-sponsored event at Darwin’s on 6th on Friday night. The Silent Years and The Brian Schram Band proved what amazing talent Detroit truly has…..and we discovered it! (well, it was always there but we took the bands to Austin). Both bands are in talks now for touring and further official business. The Emergenza team (made of U.S. and European staff) has worked out several contacts and has officially entered into talks with different companies for showcasing Emergenza bands for next year. Think about it people! South By South West showcases as prizes for great bands! This is amazing news for anybody that has great original songs, great stage presence and great attitude (am I exaggerating?…no, not really, you truly need to be a shameless, confident self promoter to get anywhere). Emergenza has teamed up with a great bunch of companies to offer the opportunity to take a handful of bands to the greatest orgy of live music on the planet. After 5 days of constant drinking and partying (thank you Miller brewing co. for the free booze and American Spirit for the free cigarettes) our team has successfully taken the European and North American festival to a new level…..the Emergenza SXSW showcases from 2007 onwards!
