Rocking in Phoenix
The final round of eliminatory shows in Phoenix kicked off on a Thursday night at The Clubhouse in Tempe, AZ. Radio Dogma, of Sedona, AZ, got things to a rockin'' start with radio friendly tunes and an all around excellent and tight performance. 42 Eternal presented some high energy songs. It wouldn''t be an Emergenza show without a screaming band like Dearly Beloved. Along with well thought out screams their drummer was very talented. The Ionics were a quite professional band with excellent vocals. Man Overboard, a group of youngsters, surprised all with an amazing stage performance complete with great guitar solos and glow-sticks. Shallowpoint closed out the evening with very entertaining hip-hopish scream rock.
On Friday the shows were rockin'' despite the fact that there were only four bands performing. Sympathy for Vampires set the mood for the evening with Type-O Negative style rock complete with tight and clear tones. The Green Water Gang were up next. They were incredible, and strangely enough seemed to have no idea how much potential they have. A sixties rock style band complete with an organ, harmonica and big hair, The Green Water Gang were definitely a crowd favorite. The Van Buren Regulars took the stage and shifted the mood to acoustic rock. They were a very full-sounding ensemble with heart-felt lyrics. A Farewell Reason had excellent stage presence and very trendy sounding vocals. All and all Friday night was a great success.
Saturday began with a group of kids who call themselves The Blood Countess. Screaming, great drums and excellent guitar solos are what define the sound of this group. Remeberetta had the audience on their toes with an excellent opener song that weaved in and out of chill and extreme energy. Life on Standby was hard rock done pro. If there were a genre to describe them it would be punk rock metal fusion. Whiskey Bishop, a young group of rockers, had a neat look about them and original lyrics to compliment their great changes. Laconic had an excellent stage presence and very positive energy.
Mossy Rocks were the perfect opener band for Sunday. They were a breath of fresh air as far as talent and attitude is concerned. They were very original and interesting with super strong vocals with full harmonies. Anzaldua followed with diverse vocals and nice guitar licks. Resisting Tension had a very strong stage presence and seemed to have worked out a good mix of screaming and singing. Pinga had very well conceived song ideas and an effective use of effects. The Facilites stole the spotlight with a unique stage performance and a nice addition of keys to a hard rock sound. Miscavage was up next with strong drums and high energy bass licks. Cede closed out the weekend''s events with great vocals and tight lix. Keep your eye out for their new music video.
With the elimination rounds complete in Phoenix I can truthfully say that the line-up for our semi-finals held at the Clubhouse this spring is surely something not to be missed.
