A Bevy of Bands by the Bay

BLOOD ON THE TRACKS, about to embark on a nationwide tour, started off the 3rd weekend of shows in San Francisco. After a short verbal scuffle with the drummer, they laid out a great set for the Red Devil Lounge crowd. The vocal effect-heavy MONDAY BULLETIN, threw out a little something different for the Russian Hill crowd, with some great original tunes. Inebreiatus Sanfranciscus, otherwise known as ELEPHANT HUNTER, had an intense set of great songs and gave the audience exactly what they came for. KAPAKAHI wowed the crowd with their conga and sax laden sound, and B1 closed out the night with a mostly instrumental, funky Hendrix-esque set. A great way to wrap up the 1st of 6 nights. ZZZ ZZZ kicked off Thursday night with a surprise acapella performance of her ode to the great city of New Orleans. Her friends COPUS followed with a great flute-sprinkled jazzy set of spoken word. KYMERA had a great funk jam, and KEVIN NEVER TALKS got everybody moving with their super funky party jams. SINCLAIR had some great vocal harmonies on stage, as well as a great full sound and presence for only having 3 members. Check them out at pier 23 on Friday February 3rd... you won''t regret it. ANOTHA MYND STATE, the sole hip-hoppers of the night, were impressive for a relatively young group. We''ll be seeing them at 12 Galaxies. Horns, Percussion, DJ, Emcee, and some of the most danceable music to grace the stage for Emergenza thus far... that is BAYONICS. They filled the room with people, and then filled those people''s souls with their amazing latin-infused funk rhythms. As of press time, they are the top voted band in the entire country. Congrats gentlemen, we''ll see you in round 2. Friday night was nothing short of amazing. LIFE WITH JONAS brought out the San Jose crowd and stole the show with their very catchy sound. Watch our for their .44 caliber kiss in round 2. MILLION DOLLAR ITCH had a very cool habit-forming sound with some keys thrown in for good measure. The boys from Fresno, ABSIT, just blew the top off the Red Devil Lounge. A very original sound, and a rabid fan base, and a guest vocal cameo from "WOLF" helped move them on to the quarterfinal round. THEND, the first Emergenza band in history with 2 drummers, had some great percussion sessions during their 25 minutes on stage. You''d think that 2 full kits might be overkill, but they pulled it off in style. SOLARDRONE had a classic metal riff sound and the moment the drummer disrobed the audience knew they were in for something special from the boys from Jackson. MODERN was just that. Abandoning traditional structure and arrangement, they opted for a more forward leaning sound with great vocals and vibe. NEEDY EEVY, another Fresno band, and quite an impressive female trio, had some catchy tunes. The heavy riff rock of CRINGETONE rounded out the great night of local music with a great 25 minutes of rockin'' guitar driven tunes. ARCHER, a recent wild card quarterfinalist, is a raging 3 piece throwback to the early days of exciting theatrical rock. NOMINAL''s sound is exactly what the rock''n''roll gods talk about behind closed doors. Some screams, some great riffs, and definitely not something run of the mill. LONERO, playing in front of a great banner, and an even greater crowd, killed it... just plain killed it. Great instrumental rock led the way that night with a ton of votes from the raging crowd. Now for one of the greatest moments rock has ever witnessed. A 25 minute drum solo. Due to some unfortunate pilfery in a back alley in San Francisco, a 3 piece turned into a 1 piece with a guest vocal. If you were there, you know what I''m talking about, if you weren''t, you will never be as fulfilled a human being as you could have been. Dave from ENSLAVIOR, my hat is off to you. Just when you thought ZEROBELLY was going to be just another great metal band, they go ahead and cover Sir-Mix-A-Lot''s "Baby Got Back." From drum solo to hip-
