First Time in Columbus
For the first time ever, Columbus witnessed the Emergenza Festival. The gigs went off like a blast and blew everybody''s eardrums off!
The bands came from all over the place and they were thrilled to set foot on Ruby Tuesday''s stage, one of the most traditional live venues in the city.
On Thursday night, 8 STEPS 2 GLORY kicked off with a bang. This punk band and their tunes were a lot of fun (I loved their quirkiness). The underground metal band ENSLAVED TO MERCY had a wireless off-stage performance amongst their fans and proved that they can put on a hell of a show. DOOMASCUS put together a concoction of punk-alternative-grunge that had the people shaking and tapping their feet to. KRYNUS won the crowd over with their powerful hard rock style and proved that rock is king! SOLACE brought on stage all their experience performing an impressive rock set with great skill . The emo-rock band WORDS AS WEAPONS did a very cool gig. This kids are great! Hardcore band TINJ closed the night with a heavy sound and a scream that could wake the dead! This band had an amazing guitar player and were very tight.
On Friday night, Ruby''s Tuesday (excuse the pun) saw on its stage a lot of metal: WOE OF TYRANTS and PLAGUED ON EARTH opened the show with very aggressive and powerful performances. VINYL brought a breath of fresh air with their keybords and acoustic guitars… they had a blast! CATEGORY IV performed a pure rock''n roll set with energy and sweat. Punk band BIG FOOT & THE FULLY AUTOMATICS brought on stage with them two dancers that made their show very entertaining (sexy to say the least). Heavy metal came back on stage with SOLIDIFIED and PITCH BLACK. Both bands rocked and the crowd showed their appreciation by moshing and screaming to their music.
On Saturday night EXCEPTIONAL EDWARD started off the show with an acoustic and emotional set that had me feeling good. The lead singer and songwriter is definitely very talented. ACCIDENTAL LETDOWN followed with a melodic hard rock performance. Great tunes and melodies. UNEVEN TRAX played a jazzy funky set with an entertaining, sensuous and gutsy feminine voice that had everybody shaking. The post hardcore band NEVERMIND THE STORY was very talkative and created a peculiar combination of voices: clean and deep voice as lead and screaming as back up….great effort! The Christian rock band SUFFER performed a very hard set with a message. The funky-instrumental band …AND 5 MAKES 20 had a lot of success with the ladies. The young and talented new wave indie girl band CARSON DREW impressed everybody with the intensity of their voices and musical arrangements. Keep up the good work girls! Grunge style from the early 90''s with TOPLESS came up next. This band has got some great and unique stage presence.
On Sunday night the young heavy metal band A SUNSET''S RUIN started off with a bang. A broken string didn''t stop ARAMAIC from winning the crowd and the night… awesome rock band! LIQUID VIZION performed a unique blend of different rock styles. ANDY SHAW and his band played a very intense acoustic set that had people spellbound to their sound. Even if CORROSIVE VENGEANCE hasn''t got a drummer anymore, their metal set didn''t let down their big crowd……...well done boys….the show must go on! The alternative-punk-rock band SUMDAY played a very interesting selection of energy songs with that punk edge that only Columbus can offer(there must be something in their water). FALLING OUT OF CARS''s rock style reflects perfectly the strangeness of the Jeff Noon''s novel (where they got their inspiration from) and brought that to the stage.
If you missed all that don''t despair, Emergenza Festival will be back at Ruby Tuesday''s in Columbus at the end of March and you''re welcomed to be part of this…….let''s rock Columbus!
