The Dirty Dozen

The last week of the Semi-finals finally arrived after 4 months of long nights and thousands of songs played. Thursday night kicked off with The Murder Elite. The extremely ecclectic rock style of the band was a great start to the show. The Fair Enough, Salacious Crumb, and the Matt Chase Group hit the stage next. The crowds were very involved and The Matt Chase Group''s funk jams got the crowd moving. They took the night. The Jon Gorey Band played a fantastic set followed by Bettersweet. The Void and Straight to Video closed the night with great sets and set the tone for the week. We might has well have slept there because friday night arrived, what seemed like, 2 minutes later. the 12 piece Soulfege took the stage and really got the crowd Irie with their "soulful" style. I''m sure you''ll see a lot of these guys in the future. Chaos Junkies and The Underdogs followed and also played great sets. Left Hand Does hit the stage and played a great set. Be sure to check this band out at upcoming gigs. Debris, Scram, and Two finger Split all arrived with great followings and played solid sets. Ript closed the night and there was no doubt that they took the night. The crowd was going crazy. Saturday started off with the very talented and young Lucy Grace. I can''t wait to see these guys in 3 years. 12 Gauge Affinity, Motherseat, and Sol Prophet were up next and played solid sets. The Highway followed with some straight up, very original, rock ''n'' roll. Lifted took the stage with an awesome set of hip hop. These guys are super talented and are for sure going places. Four Weeks from Friday played an awesome set but no one could touch the following of Fistagon. They took the night. Sunday finally arrived and the last night of the semi-finals was about to begin. Dann Russo and The Whiskey kicked off the night and played a great acoustic fronted set. They definitely were a crowd favorite early on in the night. VMF followed. This funk band certainly won over the crowd on top of the following they had in the room. They became the 12th Boston band to move on to the national finals at Avalon. Daisy Cutter, Melt, and Lucretia''s Daggers followed VMF and played great sets. Papermoon took the stage next. Be sure to check this band out. They are the epitome of rock ''n'' roll music. Frequency 7 and Spawning Echoes closed the night with some great tunes but just fell short. Regardless, the night ended on a high note. Congradualtions to all the bands that played in the festival this season and to the dirty dozen that made it to Avalon. Be sure to check out this show on June 25th. It''s going to get crazy. Who''s going to Germany?!?!?
