AVALON ON THE MIND
Week 2 of the Semi''s kicked @%&*. The bands rocked and so did the fans. Shangoaxe kicked it off and got the crowd a little irie. The mood was set as Piracy and Severance followed. Alchemilla played a solid set and had an impressive following. They are, yet another band, to keep an eye as they will do great things. The Canucks rocked out with and ended with a very impressive hendrix cover. Sweetfist played next and took the night with strong following as they just edged out Alchemilla. Eso and Common Thrill closed the night and played unbelievable sets. Plan on seeing more from those two bands in the near future as well.
The Friday night show was a busy one. Jekus Crobe kicked it off. It was great to see these young guys play The Paradise. An obvious improvement from The Middle East just proves that these guys will be amazing by the time they''re 20. Steal the City, Cash Money Medusa, and Sidpa Bardo followed and played strong sets to a packed house. Sister Domatilla took the stage next and got the crowd involved. Their hard work and great set payed off as they took the night. Why Versus Rome emerged from the Green Room and rocked. These guys are rock stars for sure. The Andres Wilson Band played next. Their writing is fantastic and if anyone needs guitar lessons they should talk to Andres. Black Betty and the Bad Habits closed the night with a super fun, upbeat blues rock style that finshed the night off on a high note.
Saturday proved to be another packed night. It was an event filled with incredible music. All the bands really were amazing. Rainsford opened up followed the energetic rock of Satellite 7 and It''s Alright Nightengale. Escape to Everything and Space''n took the stage and played really impressive sets. The stage presence saturday night was great to see. Harriet Street and Clarias played fantastic sets and very visibly won over many new fans. Alterego closed the night and played to about 200 of their most devoted fans. They overwhelmingly took the night.
Sunday night finally arrived after a long, but fun week of high energy rock ''n'' roll. The Ginsko Method opened up and played ot an impressive crowd for the beinning of the night. Be sure to check these guys out in the near future too. Plan 17 took the night with their ska-ish jams and stage antics. They came out on top despite a little bass trouble. Inner Self Lost, Fleshpetal, and Mars Hill followed with great sets. Sunday wasn''t our busiest night of the week, but the fans were just as devoted. Suspect and Sin City Chainsaw played next and absolutely rocked. Once again, plan on seeing a lot more of both of these bands in the near future. Skin closed the night and once again brought a great crowd.
Week 2 of the semi''s was another impressive sight to see. Congrats to all the bands for simply having the opportunity to play at one of America''s greatest rock clubs. Be sure to check out the bands in the final week of semis. It''s getting down to the wire and as we head into our last week of shows in Boston, Avalon is on the mind. Who''s gonna take it?????
