LOVE MY FUNKY

Now that the room has stopped spinning and my long floppy ears are done ringing and the second round of Emergenza Chicago is over, I''d like to take this time to share with you some of the best and worst moments of the season thus far…. In no particular order…. Thank you, thank you, thank you to all those bands who have shown qualities of dedication, organization and a fine taste in cheap beer. You guys and gals know just who you are and take a second to pat yourself on the back as you prepare for the semifinals at the classic music venue, Double Door. This is the stage of the festival when nothing can be left in the tank when it''s all said and done. The music, the competition, the crowds, it all gets better. You have been working at this for many months and now more is on the line then ever. Get excited, do something you normally wouldn''t do, take pride in your band and most of all….have some fucking fun. This is the entertainment business and the vast majority of you are here because you love what you do. Show it off with the snappy riffs, tribal like rolls, sickening solos and stay tight, very tight because all eyes and ears will be on your performance. I strolled through several Emergenza shows this year and I''ve seen and heard just about enough interesting things to hold me over for the rest of the year and we ain''t done yet. One night recently a 68 year old woman had to be escorted out of the bar because she was so drunk and unable to find her way to the door on her own. The idea of hooking up with her had crossed my mind then it dawned on me that no matter how drunk women get, they still don''t go for rabbits like myself. But lets not lose the beauty of this. To many it may be just some drunk at another concert, but to me, I see support. Not the support that she needed to change her colostomy bag, but a grandparent /parent out on what could have been the biggest bingo night of the year to show her love and support for local musicians. This a true symbol of some of things that make this festival go round. Word,……..This is the official Easter Bunny Shout Out section…(for better of worse) To Whisky Dick, more talent than Cleveland, less organization then, well lets just say less….To the Ghettobillies, thank you for not trying to have sex my girlfriend. By the way, she''s only in to straight guys so that leaves not chance for any of you….To Max…for putting this M-Fer together in the first place…All the managers in the trenches each week putting in their time (Brad, Kevin, Steve-O, Nick, Sean, Cliff, Jeff and so on) Here''s to Sunday Morning Chameleon who hands down has been crowned the |”Biggest Pansies” 2005. Thanks to you guys for being unreasonable and next time I promise, no green M & Ms…Sending my love to Funk. To each fan who has seen a show. No explanation necessary… For Ed and his crew at the Note who stuck with us for 15 straight weeks…Thumbs up to guys like Erik from Maxlider who not only performs and manages, but also fluffs…To the office and for all those who have given a shit all year…. Local music doesn''t come easy and with everybunny pitching in we have a fighting chance at making it last……
