A SPECIAL ST. PATRICK'S NIGHT IN PHILLY

AAAH... St. Patrick's Day in Philadelphia. What better way to start off another weekend of EMERGENZA at the 5 Spot. As you can see from the photo above, the place was packed with Irish revelers. The night started off with SEDNA, who rocked so hard the guitarist fell right off the stage. VOX AQUALIS had one of the most instrumentally interesting performances of the year, combining an upright bass and vibraphone to put all of us in a music induced dream state. The whole crowd was singing along with OCTANE''s tunes, and DOWNSPELLE closed out the night by bringing sasquatch up on stage to rock with the band. AMORA started off Friday night with a math-rock influenced "4-Eyed Fist Fight." FROM NOTHING got so amped up on stage that the guitarist broke his wireless setup. VENDETTA rocked their way into the semifinals, and THE TEET DEVINE added some country flavor to the night that had everybody hootin''-and-hollerin'' for a full 25 minutes. After praising the benefits of everyone''s favorite dessert the Choco Taco, EMERGENZA vets CHICKPEAS asked the age old question: "What do you wanna be when you grow up?" APOLOGIA threw a turntable into the mix to end Friday night with a bang. CRUX BAND had some trouble getting on stage, but rocked out the 5 SPOT nonetheless. KASP loves peanut brittle almost as much as they liked rocking their way into a slot at the NORTH STAR BAR. LAST KNOWN GOOD threw some Skynard at Old City Philly, and COMMON CRAVE had everyone "puttin'' their dreams in the air" on their way to the semifinals. REALCOOLYEAH was just that... real cool. They funked out the 5 SPOT with some real cool jams, and made their way into the semis. SALTY BAY was "screamin'' in your eyes," and SAUERWINE showed the crowd what a band sounds like after paying a "Decade of Dues." OVERTURE''s set was interrupted by an insatiable thirst for the H20. JESSE AND THE RIPPERS played a kick-butt set, throwing in a keyboard and getting a flaming gaze from the audience. HEADKICK RODEO used a timbalito and a die hard fanbase to make their way into the second round. EONS HATED put the crowd into a trance with their moody keyboard influenced sound. OFFICER down rocked the 5 SPOT hard, and Lito Records artist CIRCLE OF FEAR drew the audience into their "Devine Circle of the Ungodly." OLD MAN SAVAGE came over the river from South Jersey to rock Philly with their 80s style metal riffs, and VISTA drew in the crowd with their driving psychedelic rock. Another amazing weekend of music in Philadelphia. We''ve got one more week at the 5 Spot in Old City. Make sure you come out to the final 1st round weekend in mid-April.
