TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS IN MEMPHIS

What most cities need 8 bands a night to do, Memphis did with 4. The weekend at the Hi-Tone Cafe was packed with a ton of great music, and loads of enthusiastic fans. UNDERGLOW started off Thursday night with an awesome set full of energy and great heavy metal riffing. TRIBE OF ELI definitely put their 25 minutes to good use, and ended up advancing on to the YOUNG AVENUE DELI. Next up was DRENCHED, who was the vote leader for the evening. DOWN THE HIGHWAY's guitarist was one of the most impressive of the weekend, helping them into the 2nd round. DUBBEL MPAQ finished off the night with an amazing array of soul and R&B covers. Friday night's 1st band PARAPHANELLIA never won any spelling bees, but they definitely brought enough rock to come out on top of this talent show. TESCO had the most crossover votes of the evening, winning over the crowd, and coming in 2nd place. MRS. FLETCHER may have fallen, but this time she definitely didn't have trouble getting up on stage and ripping it for the Memphis crowd. THE COOTERS definitely win 1st and 2nd place in the "coolest song name" contest with "Crapple Pie," and Memphis Lawyers Must Die." VOODOO MOONSHINE opened Saturday night with an awesome throwback metal sound. SUNDAY SCHOOLS made everyone look up and take notice with their key-laden tracks, and amazing stage presence. MORPHIST'S name says it all, they mixed a little bit of everything into their set, wowing the crowd with their lack of musical boundaries. The competitive part of the evening was closed out with a stellar set from STARLINER. MAUXFAUX came back for seconds this weekend. They advanced in Memphis' 1st weekend at the Hi-Tone, and came back to show everyone how it's done. Sunday evening kicked off with FLIGHT2''s uplifting Christian rock set. SATCHELL BOOGIE followed up with an awesome vocal performance by the weekend's tallest lead singer. VYSION rocked the crowd with the version of the hit song "Bodies," and BLUE GAUGE, even though a last minute addition to the night, didn't fail to impress with angelic lead vocals, and amazing guitar work. The 2nd weekend in Memphis was closed out by SO SHE SANG, who was also a winner from the 1st weekend at the Hi-Tone. Just like Elvis used to do, the bands in this past weekend of shows in Memphis really TOOK CARE OF BUSINESS. Don''t miss the semifinals at the YOUNG AVENUE DELI starting April 28th.
