SINK OR SWIM - PIRATES COVE CLEVELAND
This Past weekend genre boundaries were torne down as a wide range of bands performed in Cleveland's legendary Pirates Cove. On Thursday, Despite technical difficulties, In Extremis won over the audience with the first performance of the night capturing a spot in the semi's. Next up fans were treated to the Seattle inspired guitar smashing of Adrenaline. But the nights show was stolen by Third Nature. They blended driving Guitars with spit- fire lyrics from Revelation. Only joining the festival days before, their energy was contagious enough to send them to the next round.
It was easy to tell who had lots of support Friday night as rows of fans lined up in matching Lick The Blade shirts outside Pirates Cove. The band did not disappoint them. Ripping classic metal complete with Iron Maiden vocals the crowd's hands were raised from start to finish. The Fallin Idols three part vocals were led by their drummer while the rest of the band used every inch of the red carpeted stage. Solid songwriting and a lively performance lifted them above the rest and landed them at Peabody's for the semis.
Motter Flynn had their first ever performance and showed that age has nothing to do with crafting catchy hooks. Showing poise well beyond their years it was hard to tell that this was their first time setting foot on stage. Along side the none stop barrage of punk rock from the Deadbeats, the capacity crowd got every cents worth.
Joining them in semi's will be roots rockers the Wild Goose Chasers, Mallot Finger (from Sandusky) and heavy metal standouts Caldera. In what seems to be a growing trend, Pennsylvania's Simonferior gets the heart award. Inspite of their car breaking down, being from out of state, and working through technical problems, they arrived in class in a stretch limo just in time to give a great performance. From the looks of things fans in NE Ohio are going to have a hard time choosing a favorite when they get to the Semis.
