To alternately reinforce the rhythm and the melody of their songs, guitarists will switch to playing drums and back, sometimes within the same song. A complex rhythmic groove is not the only strong point exhibited by Mocean 8. Each of the band members' smooth contrapuntal vocal lines and song writing abilities intertwine with the rhythmic layering to make a full, cohesive sound that is satisfying to anyone's musical appetite.
Mocean 8 is Dan McQueen (guitarist/singer), Jim Corcoran (percussion), Mike Hartman (Bass), and Justin Corcoran (drums/guitar). Since 2002 Mocean 8 has been working together to form a groove rock band that is as close as family (which they are). The two drummers are cousins, the percussionist's sister is the lead singer's fiancé, and the bassist is the lead guitarist's uncle. This might be a bit confusing at first, but it emphasizes the fact that Mocean 8 is truly a tight knit group.
