Embedded in this short description are snapshots of a career reaching as far back as 1996. Entering this summer’s songwriter competition by the Music Maker Association, Andy Wright (producer of Eurythmics, Simply Red and Luciano Pavarotti) and Nile Roger’s (personal friend of family) got to listen to “Distance, needed to get to know”. Caroline and I and Maria are the prototype of having lived in too many places either with money, or bound to domestic responsiblilites of kitchen and bring up children. Eager to be back again on stage and the music scence, from 1993, the days of Barfly and the Good Mixer in Camden, I (Mina) played and mostly sang with a band called ‘Subset’, reformed, now called Cassette Electrik (2007 gig with Human League). In 1997 I met Simon Raymond, then still with the Cocteau Twins in their Twickenham studio. Bella Union was in its newest form/days. From there I moved to being a singer only in ‘The Mean Reds’ 2000, playing all over London venues/pubs (now reformed since 2002 ‘The Cleo Whip’). Songs such as ‘Michael Jackson’, ‘You Hear’, ‘Pictures of you’, ‘Oh’, ‘House of an Art Lover’, were loved and part of the repertoire. Therefore this new band collaboration/set up has existed since May 2007. Michael Warren, Shahla Spence and I have had lots of hard working studio days to get the songs ready. Currently still unsigned (about 10 – 15 songs partly finished) can be heard soon on an upcoming album. Caroline and I have been wanting to fuse our music for such a long time. She has toured with the Belle Stars and was part of the 80s revival gigs (Kim Wilde etc.) in Wembley and all over this country.
