“CBA, ALL THE WAY!” The phrase is infectious and rings through your ears, just like their music. Backwards Alphabet (CBA) is a determined trio of young college students, and when they play, you have to get up and dance. Growing up listening to artists like Blink 182, The Offspring, Billy Joel, Green Day, Rancid, Violent Femmes, and Weezer, Backwards Alphabet poured all their influences together to create a fun and energetic form of music they refer to as Indie-Pop-Punk-Rock-Alternative(-emo). Backwards Alphabet started in late 2001, getting their name from Dave’s dyslexia. CBA is Dave Drayton (Drums/ Backup Vocals), Tim Aichele (Guitar / Backup Vocals), and Mike Fitz FitzSimmons (Bass / Lead Vocals).
Backwards Alphabet is currently recording their first full-length album, Show Me Yours, I’ll Show You Mine. It will be completely produced, recorded, mixed, mastered, and created by the three members. They have learned a lot since DIYing their first 7-song demo, and they assure that they know what they’re doing now. With four songs completed, they know they are on the right track.
Live is where Backwards Alphabet excels. Their shows are packed with energy, comedy, and fun. There is nothing that Dave, Tim, and Fitz would rather do than make a spectacle of themselves on stage. They recently placed second, with many good comments, in a battle of the bands at the Music Training Center in Conshohocken. As a prize, they recorded “I Can” which has gotten airplay on Tommy Conwell’s Loud and Local show on WYSP. CBA has shared the stage with such bands as Still Standing, Overdrive, Cheese On Bread, Late Night Television, No Seconds Flat, Without Parachute, No Life Line, Mod Flanders Conspiracy, and Kid Go Home. They have played stages at Grape Street Philadelphia, Music Training Center, Hamilton Street Café, Club HP, Doc Watson’s Pub, and more.
