The HOUSE POPES, hailing from invention's hometown, Akron, Ohio, are five seasoned musicians with a few too many initials after their names. "This septet of grown folks has a rootsy bar-rock sound, with singalong choruses" says Akron Beacon Journal music reporter Malcolm Abrams. The HOUSE POPES sprawl face down in a heap of folk and rock musical styles. Chicago-based The Music Street Journal's Steve Alspach said "musically they are very much rooted in the common—a curious mix of rock, roots, Americana, pop, a tinge of new wave, and that sense of quirkiness that seems indigenous to the Akron area." "They are quirky, but they pack the place," said Danny Basone, owner of Downtown Akron's premier regional music venue The Lime Spider, in a front page story by West Akron Sun reporter Brian Lisik.
