Withagainst is a loud, obnoxious, raunch rock and roll trio that plays with attitude and intellect. Straight forward, loud, detroit rock and roll. A political, blue collared live show that reeks of the sex, booze, and angst of the Detroit days gone by. We are not a garage rock band, but a sincere voice of both our discontent and the affirmation of music as power.
We are influenced by many of the Detroit standards: MC5, Motown, the Gories, Iggy and the stooges, but also the simplicity of Buddy Holly, the arrangements of Brian Eno, the eclectic George Clinton, the vulnerability of Joanna Newsom, the irony of the Silver Jews, the wit of the Velvet Underground, the scope of Bob Dylan, the sincerity of Tom Waits, and the intellect of thinkers such as Wallace Stevens, Derrida, Nietzsche, Pound, Joyce, Whitman, Baudelaire, Rimbuad, and Rand.
