HAUPTMELDUNGEN
I Gotland nascono nell'autunno 2007, con la formazione comprendente Einarr (chitarra), Víðarr (voce maschile), Vigdis (voce femminile), Kristin (basso), Hoskuld (batteria), Murcie (tastiera), Teodosio (violino); avendo in comune la medesima passione per il genere viking metal. Il nome Gotland è stato scelto all'unanimità partendo da precisi riferimenti storici, basandosi sulle origini dei primi sovrani italiani che, secondo le fonti, erano di origine gotica. In virtù delle radici scandinave di questo popolo, la scelta del nome è caduta sull'isola di Gotland, in terra svedese, poiché da essa si pensa partirono i Goti diretti a sud, che in seguito arrivarono a contatto con l'Impero Romano. Nei nostri testi si parla prevalentemente della storia Italiana; narriamo parte degli eventi che raccontano l'incontro tra questi due mondi, tra le popolazioni giunte dall'estremo nord e il grande Impero, per arrivare poi a descrivere al meglio l'influenza nordica anche sul territorio italiano, come la dominazione normanna.
La nostra è soltanto musica e non ha influenze di carattere politico o religioso ne nei testi e neppure nei simboli. Questi ultimi sottolineiamo che sono frutto di creazioni grafiche su base di immagini storiche.
Nella primavera del 2009 Murcie lascia la band, continuando però a mantenere i contatti e collaborando tuttora con essa, ed entra a far parte della band il tastierista Kaunis.
Successivamente finirà anche la collaborazione con Vigdis; il suo posto verrà preso dalla cantante Karol.
All'inizio di novembre del 2009, il violinista Teodosio dovrà purtroppo lasciare la band, trovandosi costretto a causa di impegni scolastici e lavorativi.
Ad inizio del 2010 anche Kaunis e Karol cessano la collaborazione con i Gotland, che proseguono con la sola voce scream/growl di Víðarr e avvalendosi di una scheda audio nella composizione delle tastiere.
Quest'ultima scelta permette di incrementare l'impatto sinfonico, grazie all'utilizzo di molti strumenti d'orchestra e di aumentare la precisione, dato l'ausilio del metronomo.
Nel periodo di settembre 2011 i due nuovi membri Björn (seconda chitarra) e Jötunn (tastiera e cori) entrano in sala prove ed esordiscono col gruppo il 5 novembre, in occasione della terza edizione del Metal Alliance Fest; festival organizzato ogni anno dai Gotland per supportare le bands metal emergenti dell'underground regionale. Nel luglio 2012 termina la collaborazione con Jötunn, il cui ruolo non viene sostituito.

Gotland was born on Autumn 2007, formed by Einarr (guitar), Víðarr (male vocals), Vigdis (female vocals), Kristin (bass guitar), Hoskuld (drums), Murcie (keyboard) and Teodosio (violin), who shared the same passion for the Viking metal genre. The name Gotland was chosen unanimously, referring to precise historical references based on the origin of the first Italian sovereigns whom according to the sources, were of Gothic origin. The choice of the name fell upon the Gotland island in Swedish territory, because it is thought that from there, the Goths heading South left when they came into contact with the Roman Empire. The main theme in our lyrics is Italian history. We speak of events which tell the meeting between two worlds: the populations that came from the far North and those which came from the Great Empire. This is meant to describe the Nordic influence on the Italian territory, like Norman domination. Our music, lyrics and symbols are not of political or religious influence. We emphasise that the symbols are graphic creations, based upon historical artifacts.
In the Spring of 2009 Murcie leaves the band, but she continues to keep in touch and to collaborate with us. In her place, the keyboardist Kaunis joins the band. Some time later, the collaboration with Vigdis comes to an end, and in her place joins the singer Karol. At the beginning of November 2009 the violinist Teodosio is unfortunately forced to leave the band, due to both school and work tasks.
At the very beginning of 2010 Kaunis and Karol split up from Gotland, and the band keeps on its work with just Vidarr's scream n' growl voice, and with professional audio interface for keyboard composition.
This last choice gives the band a deeper symphonic impact, as it permits to use orchestral instruments and to improve sharpness and precision, thanks to the metronome.
During September 2011, Björn (guitar) and Jötunn (keyboards and backing vocals) join the reharsal room with Gotland and have their debut concert on November 5, 2011 during the third Metal Alliance Fest edition, that is, a festival Gotland organizes every year to support the new underground metal bands in Piedmont. In July 2012 collaboration with Jötunn comes to end, his role is replaced by anyone.
