    TOPVERSLAGEN
Steve Pellow and Eli Dale grew up close together in San Ramon, California and became friends during high school. They quickly realized their mutual interests in music and began writing songs together. Soon thereafter, they formed a band under the name Silver Fly. As soon as they had enough material to gig, they sought out several fill-in drummers to play live shows around the area. In November of 2003, Silver Fly still needed a permanent drummer when they found Gregg Dean. Gregg, just off an 18 month run with the Cleveland-based band Double Yellow, had recently returned home to the Bay Area and was looking for a new project.

Once Gregg, Steve, and Eli got together to jam, they recognized their instant chemistry. They played a handful of shows as an acoustic trio but their motivation drove them to evolve musically. The combination of their diverse styles, which draw upon a vast range of influences, ultimately produced a unique brand of rock and roll. With Steve on vocals and guitar, Eli on bass, and Gregg behind the drums, they recruited John Gallups (the ex-guitarist from the heavy metal band Level) to complete the line-up. With these members in place, they chose the name Carousel in January of 2005. Carousel began to make their mark on the Bay Area's music scene. However, the band's schedule required steady rehearsals and gigs which proved to be too much for John to balance with his family life.

In August of 2006, Carousel took a brief hiatus from live gigs as John could no longer commit full-time to the band. Steve, Eli, and Gregg continued to play and write together. In John's absence, Steve concentrated on the guitar. The musical chemistry and communication between the three developed even more quickly than before. The band decided that rather than look for a new guitarist, Steve would assume all of the guitar duties and Carousel would search for a lead vocalist. The first singer to audition was Geoff Piper. In October of 2006, Geoff joined the other members of Carousel. They spent the following months writing and recording new songs and emerged in early 2007 as Pinpoint Mercy.
