Horizons End describes their sound as “heavy/uplifting.” Using a tuning more commonly found in metal bands they add a twist of pop to their sound. The Oxnard, California based band has been together since 2003 when lead singer Jordan Cucci, 21, and lead guitarist Jon Lopez, 19, decided to form a band together. The other members of Horizons End soon fell into place like the pieces of a puzzle. Mario Vasquez, 19, a bassist and student of Musicians Institute in Los Angeles was childhood friends with Lopez. A friend suggested guitarist Patrick Williams, 17, and soon after came the talents of drummer James Schlachter, 19. They say that their sound is a mix between AFI and Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. With this sound they have recently recorded a 5 track EP titled Take Short Breaths, which they will be selling at online and at shows. Horizons End has played up and down southern California from Ventura to San Diego. Some of the venues they have played include Whisky a GoGo in Hollywood, Ventura Theatre, The Underground, and the Alpine. They won a battle of the bands contest where 10 hand selected bands played at the Oceanside Pavilion. The boys won “best in Ventura County.” They were also chosen as So Cal Musicians’ artist of the month for October 2006. So Cal Musician said that, “Their stage performance and recordings show a great deal of careful planning and attention to detail.” (To read the full article go to www.socalmusician.com and click on ‘features’.) They have been noticed and recognized around town and now its time to take the next step with Horizons End. They want to be more than a local hit; they pursue a goal much bigger than that. Horizons End wants to get signed, but not just by anybody. “We want to choose the right label, we want to be taken care of,” said Cucci, “people want to sit in their garage and play guitar and hope to get famous. It takes more effort, and we realize that.” With the right knowledge and positive attitude they can bring their distinct sound to more than just southern California. They write songs with a sense of purpose knowing exactly what mood they are going for and aren’t afraid to be pop. By fusing instrumental talents and topping off each song with Cucci’s in your face lyrics and strong vocals they are catching the attention of people everywhere they go.
