TOP STORIES
-Heart pounding riffs, intelligent rhythms and melodies that will smooth your soul, combine to make the unique sound that is ARKIAH. You may need to take medication before you listen.
It began when guitarist Ben Jancovich and drummer Hugh Lewellyn-Jones found themselves drinking together at a party at the Australian Institute of Music. Both were dissatisfied with their then-current musical projects, both were seeking something new. A few hours and a bottle of scotch later they conceived the basis of what would eventually become ARKIAH.
After a few months of writing and rehearsing, ARKIAH played their debut show at the Agincourt Hotel as an instrumental 3 Piece. Riding on the strength of their songwriting and their captivating, energetic live performances, ARKIAH captured the audience’s imagination and left them craving more, but in Ben and Hugh’s eyes without a vocalist, the band was far from complete.
After over a year of touring as an instrumental three piece, and hosting over eight months of auditions, ARKIAH finally found the voice they were looking for in Paul Taylor. Alternating between soaring melodies and gut wrenching screams, Taylor’s vocal style perfectly complimented the already diverse musical influences within the band. ARKIAH was born.
ARKIAH debuted its newly completed lineup on July the 26th 2008 at the Excelsior Hotel and was met with an overwhelmingly positive response.
With a debut E.P on the way ARKIAH are a band to that will stick to your heart. From the unrelenting grooves and sheer power of Elevate and Last Fighting Words to the hook driven roller coasters, Capital…normal and “The Downside” ARKIAH are a band with a big sound and even bigger ambitions.
The ride has just begun.
