Canada made a very strong impact in Germany at the Taubertal Festival, and despite the jury’s ultimate decision, it is more than clear that both Canadian bands leave as big winners of the Emergenza Festival. Montreal’s BROKEN PICTURES, despite their nervousness and the sudden rainstorm that played many nasty tricks on the technical crew minutes before their performance, impressed many with their original compositions. Both audience and jury recognized the quality of the band’s songwriting, and very much enjoyed their short set. Congratulations to this band that will certainly do well in the future – their on stage charisma and their easy-on-the-ears sound will appeal to many. We wish all the best for this young band that incredibly, only has 7 shows under their belt to date. As winners of the Ontario Final, electro-pop band SLAVE To The SQUAREwave came to Germany on a mission. After 2 days of intense promotion to create a buzz around their name – they pinned more than 400 band buttons on festival goers (ie. pretty German girls!) as well as managed to get their t-shirts sold in the main promotional booth alongside the materials of the headliners of the Taubertal Festival – the band left itself no other choice but to live up to the expectations created. Expectations that they absolutely and brilliantly surpassed in front of the large crowd that amassed to see them! SLAVE To The SQUAREwave left many simply stunned, and were the only Emergenza band to be asked for an encore by the German audience after their set was over. This is a band to be seen live – they mix all the best of 1983 (Talk Talk, David Bowie, Toto, Kraftwerk), update it with crunchy guitar riffs and a mean funky bass, and the result is explosive. They bring back the fun and the creativity that is missing in too many of today’s mainstream acts. Incredible.
