Think minimalist blues and psychedelic folk—English
style—and you’ve got the Hertford band Habana who take their name from a cigar
box the singer used to use to busk for change. The name isn’t the only thing
they get from that side of the world either. Essentially British in sound, the band gives more than just a small nod
to blues and Americana music—like in the line “singin’ this’ll be the day I
die” in their slow harmonic song “Waterfall” off their debut EP Damson. “Good Bad Ugly” off the same release gives off a
slightly garage-y, psychedelic vibe, and “Fairytale” takes it to the max,
sounding like a mash up of the Velvet Underground with a modern Marc Bolan on
vox.
Habana is one of six bands to inaugurate the brand new format for EmergenzaFestival, where the bands will play in front of a jury for the chance of getting sent directly to the international finals of
the Festival as well as winning a showcase spot in one of Europe’s most
prestigious venues. It’s going to be neck in neck for the top spot in the great
line up on March 8th at The Garage in London—so don’t miss out! While
you’re getting ready to jam out on the 8th, go give Habana a listen
on their Soundcloud
