À LA UNE
Founded in Hamilton, New Zealand by guitarist Ollie Wright, bassist Matt Hewlett, drummer Dom Ryan and keyboardist Ian Watson, and with many combined years of performing and producing music under their belts, the band immediately began work on composing and developing their powerful and eclectic ensemble in preparation for their first recording effort; the self- titled/produced 2012 EP.
Logic Defies Logic began performing around the country to immediately eager audiences, testing their material and fine-tuning the arrangements to accommodate a live audience. The group's dedication to writing honest music, as well as their undeniably charismatic live performances, quickly saw them winning NZ's 2012 International Tattoo and Art Exhibition Battle of the Bands competition, as well as Wright winning New Zealand's 'Best Guitarist' in the New Zealand Battle of the Bands showcase. Such perseverance and vision also earned them a slot opening for American acts, Between the Buried and Me & Animals as Leaders.
Riding on the momentum of their touring experience and competitive success, Logic Defies Logic thereafter focused on recording their debut full-length album. Anatomical Design was recorded live in one day at The Porch Studios in May 2013, and is without a doubt the perfect embodiment of the band's current stylistic and aesthetic sensibilities. With a total of eight songs reaching nearly 40 minutes, Anatomical Design takes the listener on a multi-dimensional journey of emotions that will leave them craving for more.
The group's unquenchable desire to flourish initiated the decision to move abroad to Melbourne, Australia at the end of 2013. In mid 2014, the search for the right vocalist to add to the instrumental mix began and the group immediately enlisted ex-Machete Justice singer, Tarquin Keys. From the first jam, everyone knew it was on like Kong. Two songs; Broadcast and The Void have been re-released with vocals and the band has become an entity hard to define...yet easy to digest. Recently, they took out the Gunn Music Competition at the Espy and turned a few heads while doing it.
The circle is now complete and the future beckons. LDL is now set to make waves on a fresh and unsuspecting audience. A band not lacking one iota of sonic integrity, and a band you MUST experience performing live.
