À LA UNE
DEFY's members began their musical career in 1997 at the young age of twelve when they began writing and rehearsing songs for their self-titled debut album. DEFY established their debut album in January of 2001. The album was recorded and produced by Chris Djuricic at Studio One in Racine, WI (accredited involvement with Soil, Ozzy Osbourne, Rob Zombie, and more). The album was mastered by Trevor Sadler at Mastermind Productions (accredited involvement with NIN, REM, Radiohead, and more). "It is a solid metal recording with crisp, sixteenth note, mechanical rhythm guitar and extended whole note harmonies over the top," quoted columnist Jeff Stevens of the Kenosha News. "DEFY's members mesh well together, and the result is a band, not a group of individuals." DEFY won first place in the Kenosha Songwriting Contest for their track "Vital Ailment." DEFY's second album, "Fate", also recorded and produced at Studio One, was released in April of 2004 with a new approach of diverse and improved sounds from that of the traditional metal genre. On tracks such as "Reason", DEFY displays somber, heartfelt ideas by use of varied intricacies with both clean and heavy toned pieces. On tracks such as "Battlefield", the use of heavy, gritty sounding power chords is an essential element to the overall sound. Due to the diverse sounds provided by the band, DEFY has won over an array of fans from various genres of music ranging from pop to punk, blues to metal. DEFY has also received many outstanding reviews from anonymous listeners all over the world on GarageBand.com for their tracks "Vast" and "Battlefield".
DEFY has propelled their career to new heights, finding themselves champions of three battle of the band's competitions, playing several times at one of the areas premier venues, The Rave, receiving air play on radio stations 102.9 WLZR (LAZER 103) and 95.1 WIIL (WIIL ROCK), and sharing the stage with 70's rockers, Styx.
Influenced by artists such as Tool, Pantera, Black Sabbath, Cold, Metallica, and William Hung, DEFY plans to do exactly what their mentors did, and continue to do, release groundbreaking music for the world to hear.
