Deafness is a four piece all original hard rock band from Rochester, NY. The founding members Mike Matteson and Tony Thireos met in 2001 through a mutual friend at the Penny Arcade in Rochester, before Mike’s band hit the stage. Mike and Tony had the opportunity to chat while in the dressing room and found they both had a great deal in common musically and otherwise. Tony stuck around long enough to see three or four songs and left, wondering why he and Mike were surrounding themselves by “musically handicapped band mates”. Tony and Mike where able to meet at Cosmic Jams Studios a week or so later and had a very casual jam session. Mikes ability to create melody and hooks over Tony’s guitar riffs was only the beginning. For months Mike and Tony had a variety of would be bass players and drummers audition, enduring the process of finding the “right” musicians for the band. Mike and Tony wanted talented and driven individuals that would work together as team. They found drummer John Murch at sound check for his then band “Deviant”. Mike simply asked John if he knew of any good drummers and John raised his hand. The three began writing and rehearsing four to five days a week for months while continuing to audition Bass players. Tony’s brother Mike, a very talented and versatile musician was recruited to help on a temporary basis due his extremely busy schedule. The band immediately began booking shows and began pre-production for “Louder Than All”. In September of 2004 the band recorded their debut album “Louder Than All” in only four days at Watchman Studios in Lockport, NY. In support of their CD release the band booked a mini tour in the Los Angeles/Hollywood area, finishing up at the world famous Whisky A Go-Go. Mike was natural fit in the band. Tony and Brother Mike had been playing in bands together since high school. Mike has since taken permanent residence as the bass player for Deafness. The band is currently booking shows and is writing new material for the next CD.
Currently they are continuing to tour and promote their CD across the North East and beyond.
