After many trials and tribulations searching for a talented and commited bassist, Tim Whalen (affectiontely known as Sam) answered their call. The guys regrouped and changed their style into The Deadly Rhythm.. However, things only got harder for them. With half of the band away at school, it wasn't as easy as they had hoped for. This is the reason why they were on overdrive during the summers and any school break. Using what little time they had, TDR put a demo under its belt along with several local shows. One show being a nation wide battle of the bands. The band would further re-tool to become what it is now, What Remains.
Who inspired such creativity? All of the guys bring in their own influences. Matt (guitar), being the California kid that he is, surrounded himself with the likes of Sublime and Rage Against the Machine. Justin (drums) grew up on good ol' punk and ska, a few of his favorites being MxPx, Pennywise and The Suicide Machines. Sam, the bassist from St. Louis, brought a love of Weezer and Goldfinger to the mix. Kris (vocals), born and raised in St. Louis, with a short stay in Florida, thrives on harder music such as Korn, Lost Prophets and Tool.
In the grand scheme of things, What Remains is nowhere near fame and fortune... yet. However, this won't keep them down. They are driving full speed ahead and throwing caution to the wind to reach their dreams. Their intentions are to bring this new breed of "screamo-core" to your very own town.
