Have you ever felt something and were unable to explain what it is? Well that's what JAK's front man Center hopes to give to the people who hear their music. " I truly hope that our music can make people feel some sort of emotion, I don't care what type as long as they feel something" Center said. When asked to sum up the bands style of music in one sentence he said "We are basically the bastard step children of metal, we take all types of music and throw them into a tumbler and shake it like a martini waiting to be consumed". That statement couldn't be more true, if you listen closely you can hear all of these different influences smacking into each other with a force that can't be matched by many. Few dare even try.
JAK was a band for only 2 weeks before they wrote their first song "My Own" together. Which after many long nights of practicing it for a talent show, which was later cancelled by andover high school, "my own" was recorded on tape and submitted to numerous battle of the band competitions. None of which bore the fruits of the bands tireless labor. With the talent show bug out of the way JAK was free to start writing again, and boy did they write, feverishly, which has produced some high quality material, like the sing along anthem "7:06" and the bass driven metal of the song "ode". Amazed at the progress of the band, Center contacted First Avenue's booking department and got JAK a show on the clubs new band night. After their first show, JAK locked themselves in the rehearsal space and didn't come out until they had 11 songs of extreme quality and emotion, which gave JAK the arsenal they needed to play more shows successfully.
Center met Freedom in grade school. After a while they lost contact with each other and didn't re-meet until they were both in high school, and after a few failed attempts at being in separate bands, they decided to join forces and hopefully make this new band a permanent fixture. After searching for a guitar player for many months, Buck a friend of Freedom's and Center's introduced them to a guitar prodigy named Bames they instantly clicked, and after a few weeks they had completed "my own" but were still missing a bass player, so in a time of pressure, Bames decided that it was time to enlist the masterful bass playing styles of his brother Ben2. With Ben2 now in the line up JAK started to become a force to be reckoned with.
So please venture into the musical world of JAK, a place that knows no sonic boundaries or constraints. Only governed by the creative juices that flow from each member, this band has many places to go and many sounds to un-cover. Come along for the ride, and make sure you keep your eyes shut, ears open and just listen.
