This radically minded group of four is a testament to the fact that the collective output is greater than the sum of its part. The group first formed in 2004 with the “soul” purpose of creating music to blend different music styles and influences. Elements of jazz, blues, reggae, punk, hip-hop, and funk combine these mad boys’ rock roots for a blend of original and talented, although somewhat loud, music. Sprinkled and teased throughout their concerts, their songs give the audience a taste of the familiar amidst the sonic and sometimes psychedelic, allowing the band to pay homage to their wide variety of influences. Forget the lyrics about rainbows and butterflies from the hippie generation or the high-powered relentless noise of heavy metal. And 5 Makes 20 is the border between the former and latter, with lyrics ranging from political to personal with topics just as diverse as each member and their influences.
