September 2002 was when it all started. Core was formed by the five members Lucian, Steve E, Steve S, Antony, and David. Right off the bat, these talented guys were composing all original music and playing venues, from Club Rockit (where it all began) to The Docks on the waterfront in downtown Toronto. In April 2005, the band decided to change their name from 'Core' to 'Darker Shade of Red'. This decision was a unanimous one, based on the fact that that the five members wanted a name that better suited their personalities as well as the music they were constanty creating. In any type of personality, there are always different degrees, or 'shades' of character and expressions. During a two year span, DSR has won 1st place in Battle Of The Bands, was presented with a People's Choice Award, and placed 2nd in a Battle Of The Bands at The Docks, one of the largest and most well known venues in the Greater Toronto area. In the beginning, Antony was not an original member of the band. The former bassist, Mike G, was the fifth member of the group who decided to depart on good terms to attend to personal responsibilities. For a short while, the guys were at a loss as they searched for a new bassist who could live up to Mike's capabilities and creativity, but with no immediate luck. It was almost by accident that David (drummer) was on a well known Toronto chat forum, and happened across a post by Antony, who had said that he was an independent bassist/guitarist looking for a good band to contribute to and become part of. Introductions were immediately made, and Antony came out for his audition. The guys were all amazed by his quick hands and excellent playing style, which they knew immediately was the missing link. Antony was equally impressed, and he became the fifth member of the group right then and there. DSR finally became whole, and immediately gelled seamlessly into a whole new band, composing amazing music faster and greater than ever before. To date, DSR has written scores of new rock songs, in addition to having editorials written about them in EP Magazine, NOW Magazine, EYE Magazine, the internationally published sport compact tuner magazine Performance Auto & Sound, not to mention countless industry accolades and an ever growing legion of dedicated fans. The guys are also gearing up for a Canadian tour, which is currently being organized. In addition to this, there is also a full length EP in the works, which will be released in late July 2005. In short, Darker Shade of Red is ready to go big. They love what they do, and they do it well. Their captivating stage show and almost hypnotic music will definitely make you a believer.
