Doctura began in San Antonio, Texas during the summer of '96, as a band formed by four high school friends. They started out playing cover songs at local bars, but their drive for musical expression was too strong. Soon, they graduated to playing all original material and have spread their unique style of metal throughout Texas, including San Antonio, Houston, Austin, Dallas, New Braunfels, Kerrville, Gainesville and Corpus Christi. During this time, they have had the pleasure to open for such bands as <b>Staind, Static-X, Drowning Pool, System of a Down, Flaw, Lo-Pro, The Union Underground, American Head Charge, Nevermore, Mercyful Fate and Biohazard</b> to name just a few.
The original four members have been playing together for more than eight years. The band consists of Nat Garza (Vocals, Guitar), Ryan Chadek (Guitar), Phillip Villagran (Bass), and Chris Hillhouse (Drums). Doctura blends an aggressive guitar attack with a booming bass and near virtuostic drums to create their unique style of power-groove metal. In the summer of 2000, Doctura recorded their first CD, Intertwined and released their self-titled follow-up in 2003. The growth of the band is evident on "Doctura", both as musicians and as brothers. The band's sound has been described as "Aggressive, progressive, experimental metal that can lull you into a trance one minute and put your throat in a death-grip the next."
