NOTIZIE PRINCIPALI
Bob Rifo is born in Bassano del Grappa (VI)-Italy-, in 1977. He is one of the most prolific art producers in the European dj culture. He started his studies with classic guitar and sang solfeggio. Bob grew up reading Ranxerox comics and listening to the Rockabilly of the T-birds, brought to maturity through the destruction of the schematic music learning and any other form of subject ready to be learnt. After five years of studies between Chopin, Beethoven and Debussy, the refusal for the entire genre becomes the natural answer to the over keen application on this topics. It is during this period that he starts to engage with samplers and other machines linked to the electronic music, keeping a strong bond with punk and new wave style of the 80s. He tests hip-hop, drum and bass, jazz and funk as singer, guitarist, bass player, drummer and sound designer. It does not take long before he acquires a personal technique based only and exclusively on his own instinct. In this period there are the first experiences of production, today labelled from Bob as “exercises”.The first production is dated 1997, with the hip-hop group “Da Fam” that becomes one of the leading bands of Northern Italy. Thereafter the growth increases drastically. Bob re-creates the soundtrack for Mornau’s “Nosferatu” and a short movie of the New Yorker Tom Friedman (Prada Foundation, Milan) while with “Cafeaudio” he becomes well known from the English critics. The “Cafeaudio ep” (Within Records) is compared to Massive Attack, Portishead and Tricky and reviewed with good outcomes in the best known English music magazines.Bob is actively producing both in the electronic environment, like drum n’ bass (collaborations with Rollers inc from Turin and Dj Villari from Casino Royale), and in new music directions, seeking to erase any sort of barrier built from the definition of “Genre”. In 2003 he decides, furthermore, to study electro and house, with results that does not take long to appear. After a few months “Wacky Race ep” (QPoint Records) is produced. He is called to collaborate with Db Boulevard to the album Frequencies (Airplane!/ Warner Music) and becomes the vital support for dj superstar Alfred Azzetto (MTV music awards 2002). Together they create a production group connected with the most important European dance situations. The production style is often on the electro and rock fashion. Presently, Bob is working on the project “ The Rectangles” and co-producing with Marco Bertoni ( art producer for Sony, Mescal etc.) to his first solo project, on the punk, electro and rock n’ roll style promoted through the Bob Rifo Crew.
