NOTIZIE PRINCIPALI
Hugonaut is an original, progressive, hard rock band from Denton, Texas whose musical backgrounds span from jazz, blues, classic rock, metal, classical, and punk. In the fall of 1999, Billy Patterson (guitar) and Ryan Rogers (bass) met in Cleveland, Mississippi (merely forty minutes from the infamous Crossroads) and started the punk band, point5-0. After point5-0's drummer left the band, the two relocated to Denton, Texas in December 2004 to join drummer Josh Fletcher. Josh brought an authentic style of percussion due to his talent and training of various instuments (trumpet, french horn, bass, guitar, etc.) Josh's jazz roots gave a new sound to what was once raw punk music.
The band gained another member during the spring of 2004, Pate Mackenna, brought his lead guitar skills and songwriting techniques in to help Billy and Ryan find new dimensions in their own songwriting. A few months after the additions of Pate, vocal auditions were held. Angelo Fesperman was a Texas All-State vocalist and a former Vocal Perfomance major at Oklahoma State. His classical training added the vocal melodies the band yearned for but never could attain in point5-0. In November of 2004, Pate decided to leave the band to concentrate on a degree from the University of North Texas. The exit of Mackenna from the band was, in turn, a blessing in disguise, allowing Hugonaut to develop their own solid, unique sound. The band produced, recorded, and mixed their demo themselves in two months in the practice room at 1209 Broadway.
Then, on the morning of May 18th, 2005, one of the founding members of Hugonaut, bassist Ryan Rogers committed suicide. Angelo and Billy prepared a song, appropriatly entitled, Ryan Taylor Rogers, May 19th and performed it at the memorial service for friends and family on May 21st, 2005. After much grief and mourning, the remaining members of the band, Josh, Angelo, and Billy agreed that Ryan would want them to continue on and never give up the dream. Since Ryan's death, Hugonaut has put its songwriting in high gear and is using this tragedy as inspriration for the future. Hugonaut played a tribute to Ryan Rogers at Andy's on The Square in Denton in late June and will continue to play shows in the North Texas area.
In September of 2005, Philip McClung and Brandt Holmes joined the band to participate in the songwriting process. Philip and Brandt were in the band Trybyss in Wichita Falls, Texas. Philip's knowledge of music theory adds complementary guitar parts to Billy's guitar parts, as well as new dimension, body and depth to old songs and new songs. While, Brandt mimics the bass lines already written by Ryan and writes his own original bass lines picking up right where Ryan left off. The band plans on re-recording a demo in the near future. Hugonaut's live performances are raw and "in-your-face"; their music speaks for itself.
