Drab is a Boston-based rock band formed in Rhode Island in 2001. It was conceived in the Bristol, Rhode Island bedroom of then-20-year-old Tanya Pearson. Obsessed with The Pixies, Nirvana and Sonic Youth, Pearson's ideas were pleasantly abrasive, catchy and humorous. Songs such as Dinosaur World, a song about giant lizards protecting the songs character from the tempation of horny kids and cocaine, or a song about deifying Liz Phair would be good examples crafted solely by her using a eight-track recorder, a drum maching, guitar, keyboard and various sreetches and hollering from brothers and sisters. This session was mass-produced on to cassette and passed around Bristol and Providence. They became an instant obsession of those that received them.

The popularity of the songs forced Tanya (formerly of T-Squared) to team up other musicians in order to perform live. She recruited punk-rock-lifestyle enthusiast Mike Reilly (Fuck Head Five, Get Killed) on Drums, One-Eyed Don on Bass (various metal, rap-rock bands) and a tall chap named Nikolai on keyboards. They put on a live show that was sure to be mixed with loud, brilliant shoegazer space rock for fans of Sebadoh, that dog., Nirvana and the Pixies mixed with toilet humor and jokes about prostitutes.

Not long after the birth of the "live band" Drab, Pearson met musician and former college radio music director (now WFNX disc jockey) Jason Layne (Walker, Superbowl Champions, Alewife). Layne had become a fixture at Drab shows and would always consitently praise Pearson's songwriting talents. Pearson knew of Layne's musical ability (Layne plays five instruments) and taste in music. He was later recruited to play bass after the departure of One-Eyed Don. He would also be the only consistant member of the band through the present, commuting from Boston at times.

Robert Blunt (Walker, Milk Machine, Alewife), the band's current drummer, spent countless hours playing in bands across the country while working in liberal politics. He was former school mate and band mate of Layne's and joined the band after moving back to New England from Oklahoma City.

Drab is based out of Brighton, MA and has played many shows at all of the major Boston venues since moving there in 2004. They've enjoyed performances with Shoenen Knife, Ho-ag, Ketman, Valhalla Kittens, The Count Me Outs and many others.
