SUPERGUM overwhelmes you with great guitarsounds and dito bass/drum parts. SUPERGUM catches the eye and holds everyone’s breath like a huge chewing-gum (a “SUPERGUM”).
In november ’96, bassplayer Bart left the group and SUPERGUM was side-tracked. Frontman Gert found new companions and was ready to kick some ass in september ’97.
November ’97 was a milestone for the members of the band : they released their first CD-single, “AIRPLANE !” with three songs (Airplane !, Eating Bullets, Last Song). The label BOOM!-records from Halle (Belgium) made sure that everyone listened to SUPERGUM on national and regional radiostations. They even made it to number 23 in the charts of the national alternative radiostation Studio Brussels. These charts are composed by the listeners’ votes who can sum up the 3 songs they like the most at the moment. Although SUPERGUM’s singles were not available in the stores, they achieved this very unusual spot and stayed in the charts for 8 weeks !!!
SUPERGUM also took part in rock contests. Humo’s Rock Rally was one of them. This well-known and influential contest is always visited by rocking Belgium and has given SUPERGUM some astonishing comments :
HET BELANG VAN LIMBURG : (local newspaper) “ A very tight rhythm section and a guitar player that practises witchcraft with his guitar. If God catched a cold, his sneeze would sound like Supergum.”.
DE MIX from the national newspaper DE MORGEN : “ SUPERGUM is seventies bombast with a modern pace”.
Supergum played with The Sisters of Mercy, Anne Clark, The Bollock Brothers, Red Zebra, Anthrax, Deep Purple, Status Quo, Vernon Reid...
