    TOP STORIES
Singer-rockwriter Cliff Hedley has been gaining momentum on the New Zealand music scene since returning from the UK in 2003 where he travelled and played as a solo artist.

His return coincided with a new recording artist grant from New Zealand On Air for the song "Overcoat" which became his first single. An indie video and regional radio airplay followed, and Hedley set about forming a band to play his style of music live. As the band started to gel, so too did the tracks which would eventually become the album "Sink & Swim", a self-funded effort recorded on Hedley's indie label, Sonic Orange.

The "Cliff Hedley Band" includes Brent Martin on drums, AJ Hay on keys/backing vocals and Andre Birt on guitar. The quartet together transformed Hedley's original acoustic tracks into edgier rock numbers - a closer resemblance to the kind of music that influenced his song-writing. Further evolution towards the album happened under the guidance of producer Andrew Buckton at Studio 203, with the help of some talented local musicians in Jay Foulkes, Stephen Small, Janek Croydon, Jordan Clark and Buckton himself adding bass and guitar.

A second NZ On Air grant was awarded in 2007 to produce the video for "Indecision", another single from the album. The video appeared on Alt TV and C4, and the single was played on The Rock's "Off the record" show during April-May of that year, as well as getting airplay on Kiwi FM and a number of other stations around New Zealand.

A video for the latest single "Down Now" has just been finished and will be appearing on music television soon, with the band having just completed touring of the North Island to promote the single.

The album is available now from iTunes, Real Groovy, Loneboy.com and amplifier.co.nz.

The band have just begun work on a follow-up album, due out in early 2009.
