Helsinki kicks off with four astounding gigs

Emergenza is back to Finland: first round at Semifinal



Wednesday, November 8th Once again Helsinki’s Emergenza bands offered the Finnish audience an interesting series of live performances. First day at Semifinal club opened with the vibrant and vigorous show of the metal act The Enchained, followed by another metal band: this time the young, yet lively musicians from Vile Death. Third on stage came the powerful hard rock displayed by the experienced band Override while fourth was again an impressive and driving metal act called Phantom Pain. The show wrapped up with a number by Blind Secrecy and their heavy and somewhat dark rock. Thursday, November 9th The captivating and intense prog rock act The Flanger kicked off Thursday’s shows, immediately succeeded by the fresh thrash metal band Oblivion. Third on stage was the pleasurable and rather passionate rock ensemble Dystamia followed by Idefix, another rock act with powerful Finnish lyrics and fast rhythms. Fifth in succession was the entertaining, fresh pop-rock band Corall while the shows were closed by the interesting mix of emo, grunge and metal displayed by the surely Deftones-inspired act called The Broken Sun. Friday, November 10th The vibe on Friday night was definitely a mixed one. First band performing was Stair, a young and brisk pop ensemble, immediately followed by the energetic punk-rock act Beaner. Third band of the evening was Pohjoiskorea, an indie-rock act with strictly Finnish lyrics and a somewhat captivating, melancholic spirit. The mood changed with Grazy Mama and The Sidekicks, a blues-rock band with a powerful female lead singer followed by the catchy tunes of the lively and happy pop-rock ensemble F.A.R.O. The evening was closed by Renoise: an animated, dynamic metal band from Tampere and also by the talented, powerful and experienced thrash metal act Dead Shape Figure. Saturday, November 11th Saturday’s last night of concerts began with the accomplished and enjoyable band The Ride followed by the vibrant metal act Total Damnation. Third on stage was Cathead, an alternative rock band with technically very good musicians and a confident female lead vocalist. The succeeding rock act, The Bright Side of Suicide, provided the audience with catchy tunes and an entertaining, peppy live show. While the next band, Stonetone, set up a solid performance made of powerful and vigorous rock songs. The Saturday shows wrapped up with the joyful energy and clever performance of the indie act Yes, Please! followed by the passionate and incisive tunes of the experienced rock band The Jade.
