RISK Assessment is a band from the sexy town of Newcastle, NSW who are inspired to create tracks that move between cotton tail soft and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson hard. Therefore ‘dynamics’ is a word they keep in the front and back of their minds as they piece together tracks. Both Curtis Smeaton (guitars, lead vocals) and Patrick Sharples (drums, vocals, samples) truly believe that music is a process of delayed gratification, evolution, mutation, partnership, metamorphosis and most importantly musical notes (or as close to). Life is dynamic so why can’t music? They are not going to start a world-wide musical revolution or make music business history. But in performing in the previous band ‘Manatee’ together, they have been fine-tuning their trade together for years. Their advice would be to listen without distraction, or at a push maybe their music could be used at your local church or at your wedding reception – congratulations by the way!

The songs range between metal, psychedelic, punk and jazz sounds, and Smeaton’s vocals jump between screaming, clean vocals and a little bit of growl just for good measure. Sharples’ drums are sharp and creative (also if you see him ask him to tell you that funny story about the mung beans – it is so funny!). Themes range from the personal impacts of OCD, the intergenerational nature of bigotry, to the global disparity between wealth. So there is a song for every occasion.
