    À LA UNE
Mars Hill are a band that is not easy to label. They got together in Charlottetown PEI in 2003. They currently call Montreal QC home having made the move there in the fall of 2006 for creative reasons.

The music of Mars Hill is genre defying blend of elements from reggae, folk, rock, jazz and hip hop. It is a very original sound. Ethereal keyboards, thick bass lines, jazzy drums and climatic trumpet give the band a psychedelic 1967 Venice, California feel and vibe while the vocals drag the band's sound through Kerouacís New York and Harrison's Rishikesh.

Their debut album Oxcart was released in October 2004 just in time to garner an ECMA nomination as Alternative Recording of the Year at the 2005 ECMAs in Sydney NS. The album was engineered and produced by Darren Gallop, a member of Slowcoaster through his production company East Cape Productions.

Their new CD Fate Chance Luck Dance was released in April 2006 in Charlottetown PEI with a capacity crowd on hand at theArts Guild. The album was recorded at St Paulís Anglican Church in Charlottetown over 5 days in November 2005. This album has garnered the band two ECMA 2007 nominations as Alternative Recording of the Year and for Urban single track for the song "A Short Rope". The album also won the group their first PEI Music Award as best Alternative Recording of the Year in November 2006. Another song called "I Don't Know, You Don't Know" was selected for inclusion on the 2006 Atlantic Film Festival compilation CD. The band was also invited to perform that song on the ECMA 2007 Awards show in Halifax this past February.
