T-Rhythm: love, unity, and good vibes

Polynesian reggae group, T-Rhythm, speaks with Emergenza about their up-coming show on March 28th!

T-Rhythm is Melbourne’s finest reggae ensemble. This eight-piece band’s main selling point is the three Taito brothers, who showcase three-part harmonies and three distinct lead vocals. T-Rhythm is a family; their members are all related to each other in one-way or another. Their music is all about feel-good vibes, originating at family gatherings and growing into something much bigger. I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know these guys and can foresee a bright future ahead of them. Stop by The Espy on March 28th and check them out!

HI GUYS! I MUST SAY, I FIND YOUR UNIQUE STYLE VERY INTRIGUING. HOW WOULD YOU BEST DESCRIBE YOUR MUSIC TO READERS WHO HAVE NOT LISTENED TO IT BEFORE?
It’s reggae, with a Polynesian twist, so expect a fun, addictive, feel-good vibe promoting Love and Unity.

WHAT MADE YOU ALL DECIDE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE EMERGENZA FESTIVAL?
We found out about the festival through a private message from your team on our band page, and from checking it out, it looks and sounds pretty good, especially the travelling part, whether we get that far or not, why not give it a go. A good time too, as we are working on our own tracks, awesome opportunity to introduce us, our style and music out there.

WHILE EVERY MUSICAL GENRE IS ALLOWED TO COMPETE IN THE FESTIVAL, THE MAJORITY OF PARTICIPANTS USUALLY CONSIST OF FOUR-PIECE ROCK BANDS. HOW DO YOU THINK YOUR OWN MUSIC IS GOING TO MESH WITH THE REST OF THE COMPETITION?
We appreciate all genres, and especially the work that goes into organizing and being part of a band, no matter what genre, it ain’t easy. We had a similar experience in 2010, being the odd one out amongst other rock and tribute bands in a ‘pub’ battle of bands event and surprisingly, we were accepted by all, votes were close and we came second place, but we won over followers who have been to almost every gig we have had since they first heard us there. It’s very humbling to have people show love and support to what we do, and honestly we can’t keep doing what we do without them.

YOUR FACEBOOK PAGE HAS OVER A THOUSAND “LIKES”, WHICH IS VERY IMPRESSIVE. WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS THE KEY TO BUILDING SUCH A LARGE FAN BASE?
I think we’re related to all of them…hahaha. Nah, We believe its gigging and taking time to meet and greet the people who take the time out and pay to come see us perform. As I mentioned above, People keep coming because of the feel-good music, but they become family when you get to know them on a personal level.

I NOTICED THAT YOU DO A LOT OF COVERS; CAN WE EXPECT COVERS AS WELL IN THE COMPETITION, OR WILL YOU BE SHOWCASING NEW MATERIAL?
As I mentioned earlier, Emergenza has come at a time where we are currently working on our original material, so we might throw in 1 or 2 covers but we are excited about showcasing our original tracks.

WHAT ARE YOU GUYS LOOKING FORWARD TO THE MOST DURING YOUR TIME WITH EMERGENZA FESTIVAL?
The experience, one can never learn too much.
